Maassarani Psychological Services
About Me
Hi! I'm Dr. Reem Maassarani. I am a clinical psychologist located in the East end of Ottawa and I offer individual therapy services to Veterans, RCMP members and private clients. I obtained my PhD in clinical psychology from the University of Ottawa in 2016 and I am qualified to work with adult clients in the areas of clinical/ health/ rehabilitation psychology.
I have a particular interest helping police officers and veterans who are experiencing symptoms related to Trauma/ PTSD/ Complex-PTSD, as well as clients struggling with Anxiety, Adjustments to difficult life events, and Chronic Pain. Together we can work on identifying ways to improve your quality of life through concrete tools and a supportive therapeutic environment.
My services are available in English or French and sessions are offered both in-person or virtually.

Reaching out for help takes a lot of courage! It can be intimidating starting a process you might not be familiar with or talking to someone you don’t know.
So, what can you expect from therapy? During the first few sessions, we will explore what brought you in, any symptoms you might be experiencing, their impacts on your life and your desired treatment goals. We will regularly monitor your progress and make any necessary adjustments along the way. I will be there to help you process difficult memories or feelings that may be causing you discomfort in your present life so that you can start living your life instead of surviving it.
My main areas of interest include:
-
Trauma/ Complex Trauma/
Post-traumatic stress Disorder (PTSD)
-
Anxiety/ Adjustment difficulties
-
Chronic Pain or Illness
But I can also help you if you struggle with the following conditions:
-
Anger
-
Communication
-
Depression
-
Divorce
-
Dual Diagnosis
-
Emotional Abuse
-
Fears / Phobias
-
Grief, loss, bereavement
-
Insomnia
-
Obsessive- Compulsive (OCD)
-
Panic disorder
-
Relationship Issues
-
Self Esteem
-
Sleep Disorder
-
Stress
My therapeutic approach is primarily cognitive-behavioural but I also offer elements of psycho-dynamic therapy, acceptance-commitment therapy and interpersonal-therapy to adapt to each ones needs.
Client age group I work with:
Adults (18 +)

For many veterans, transitioning from military life into civilian life can come with various challenges, whether professionally, socially, with family members/ spouses, or with everyday activities. These transitions can be frustrating when you have been conditioned to operate in very specific ways for a very long time.
As a police officer, you may have experienced various events during your service that were extreme, traumatic and difficult to process. Talking to "others" who might not understand your experiences may feel invalidating and may not always lead to the support you need. You might also be experiencing reactions that are not "like you" and that isolate you from others.
If these are areas you would like to target, I can help you navigate these unique challenges to better improve your quality of life. My aim is to provide you with a trustworthy environment where you can start finding a sense of safety and control over your life.
Understanding your experiences and their impacts on your life is key to choosing the path you would like to follow. Change isn't easy but having the right tools and support can make the entire difference!
I offer direct billing to Veterans and RCMP members so that you don't have to worry about financing your sessions!

These assessments are available for Veterans and RCMP Regular members. They include a clinical interview, clinical measures, clinical observations, diagnostic impressions and treatment recommendations.
The Medical Questionnaire provided by VAC is then completed and submitted to
VAC on your behalf after we review it together.
